Before anything else, the honest truth about my first build:
I made a website. I had no idea what I was doing. I just told the AI what I wanted, it did its thing, and I went along with it, not knowing any better. And it worked. I had a real thing on the screen that I made.
You do not need to know what you're doing to start. You just need to ask.
That's the whole point of this one.
Step 1 — open the tool
Go to claude.ai and make a free account, or sign in. This is the AI you'll build with. Nothing to download or install. If you can use a chat app, you can use this.
One thing I did wrong so you don't have to: when I started, I figured I needed some "real" coding tool, so I ran two windows, asking questions in one and copying the answers into a separate coding program to actually build. Total waste of time. You don't need any of that. This one window builds the thing for you, right here.
Step 2 — ask it to build your page
Paste this in, and swap in your own details:
Build me a simple one-page website about me. My name is [YOUR NAME]. I'm a [what you do]. Include a warm intro, three things about me, and a way to reach me. Keep it clean, modern, and to one page.
Then hit enter.
Step 3 — watch it appear
In a few seconds a panel opens on the right side of the screen with your actual page in it. A real, rendered website. Not code. The thing itself.
That's it. That's your first real thing. You made it by asking.
(If nothing shows up after you hit enter, pop into Settings → Capabilities and make sure "Code execution and file creation" is on. It's on by default, so this is just in case.)
One honest thing nobody tells you
Right now, you won't know if it's good. You'll look at it and not be sure. That's completely fine. You're not supposed to know yet. I didn't either. Knowing what "good" looks like comes later, and it gets a whole lesson of its own. Today the only win is this: you asked, and a real thing appeared. You build things now. That's the shift.
Don't like something? Just tell it. "Make the intro shorter." "Try a different color." "Add a spot for a photo." It'll change it. That back and forth, where you say what you want, look at it, say what's off, and go again, is the whole skill. You're already doing it.
